Micro-Blogging for success

One of the most important tools in a marketers toolbox is the microblog, no other form of free promotion can get visitors to your site faster than a microblog.

Now there are many sites on the net offering microblogging apart from twitter and sometimes using one of these other sites can be more beneficial than posting on twitter alone.

Some of the other microbloggers deal only with certain niches and for targeting these are ideal places to launch your product or service that fall into a certain niche (most products and services belong to one niche or another) SPNBabble for instance deals mainly with search and advertising while Hot Spot Social is focused on the Internet Business community and social media as a whole and deals mainly with business networking and link building.

Most of the Microblogging sites allow you to place a URL within your post but you have to remember a microblog is small normally between 160 and 200 characters so keep the text short and link to the information rather than try posting all you need to say in the microblog, most will have found this post simply because it is linked to my microblog demonstrating the power a microblog has.

When joining a microblogging community it is important you read their rules in order to avoid being banned for spamming, be sure to fill in your profile giving as much detail about yourself as possible (the more people know about you the more they are likely to accept you in the community), be honest never try to embellish your abilities as you will quickly get found out and be shunned as a fraud.

Be active in the community never just post and leave, your post will quickly disappear from the activity feed so you will need to re-post daily, you may also receive some comments about your post, be polite and answer them even if the comment is upsetting replying with a thank-you for your input can be more upsetting for the commenter who probably just wanted to get a reaction from you.

Follow people, the fastest way to get followers is to actually start following people you come across in the community, most times they will reciprocate and follow you also, following a person means when they post you should be notified of a new post most times you will receive an email notification likewise when you post your followers will all be notified providing instant  promotion of your new post.

Your Avatar is important it should reflect who you are, personally i prefer to use a good head shot photograph of myself but you could also use your brand or logo as effectively.

Check your spelling when making a post and use proper language skills, if people can't understand what your saying they are going to dismiss your post as rubbish.

Don't forget to check out all the facilities offered at the microblogging site, some are pretty cool and can be a great tool for promotion .

Most of all remember microblogging works and if your not already using them then you are missing out on a ton of free traffic not to mention the links your posts will provide back to your main site.

Don’t Become an Internet Victim

Seems 2010 is going to bring with it a fresh batch of sites making preposterous claims in order to scam web users out of their money, too often my business partner Andy and I come across these sites pretending to offer an unbelievable business opportunity when in fact there is nothing of the sort to be found.

One recent site we came across http://ismyblogs.name/ is one such site lets look at what makes this site a scam.

1. It makes a ridiculous opening statement "WATCH THIS VIDEO TO SEE HOW I USED THIS BLOGGING SERVICE TO
RANK IN THE NUMBER 1 SPOT IN GOOGLE IN UNDER 2 MINUTES".

Anyone with even a small amount of experience on the internet knows that this is just not possible (unless you own Google that is), even using the best submitters available it will still take the better part of the day for Google to visit and schedule your site/post for indexing it can then take several days even weeks before it appears in the search results .

2. This site claims to provide Free submission to 800,000 search engines

This is another false claim as even the best submitters do not submit to that many engines or directories and if they did submission would take months as most require some form of manual submission and in a lot of cases confirmation via email.

3. potential signups through 5 levels.

Now if this were possible it would be great but most payment processors will not allow payment to multiple tiers, apart from this there is no clear product being sold, to be a legal business you need to have either a physical product or service, Paid Membership in the opportunity is not a qualifying factor for legal status.

further lets look at what the above site offers as it's affiliate payment system (this is copied direct from the site)

  • POTENTIAL EARNINGS LEVEL 1 – 10 new sign ups = $10 to you each month (this covers your blogging service fee)
  • LEVEL 2 Your 10 each sign up 10 = $100 to you each month
  • LEVEL 3 These 100 each sign up 10 = $1,000 to you each month
  • LEVEL 4 These 1000 each sign up 10 = $10,000 to you each month
  • LEVEL 5 These 10,000 each sign up 10 = $100,000 to you each month

If this were possible don't you think every adult on the internet would be members after all $111,100.00 a month is far better than most company managers earn why everyone would give up their jobs and just do that , well they would until the power went out and the phone lines quit and the food became impossible to get because all the shops were closed and nobody is growing food or running the essential services like electricity or water, after all we would all be on $1,333,200.00 a year incomes that require little or no work , not that there would be anywhere to spend the money anyway making it valueless.

The Bottom line is don't be sucked in by these scams, sure they may pay out a few dollars to the few that get in on launch but for the majority of the members no such income is possible, they are mostly designed to be short lived with the owners pulling the plug as soon as they see membership tapering off and the number of complaints rising.

Look for the real product or service in an opportunity and do the maths remember there are only so many people on the internet and while some quote the world population they don't mention the figures include people in poorer countries where only a small percentage of the actual population can own a computer let alone connect to the internet.

Remember the old Adage "If it looks too good to be true it generally is"
